Singapore bunker sales for September 2016 were mostly flat year-on-year at 3,831,000 metric tonnes (mt) for all products, according to the latest preliminary data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

However, as in 2015 sales dropped sharply compared to the previous month, down 9.4 percent over the August 2016 total of 4,228,000 mt to make it only the second time this year that monthly sales have been under the 4 million mt mark.

There were 3,324 calls for bunkers in September, putting the average stem size at 1,152 mt

However, the month-on-month drop was less than the 10.3 percent decline witnessed last year ( 4,287,800 mt in August 2015 to3,847,600 mt in September 2015).

Sales of IFO380, as always, made the majority of overall sales with 2,759,600 mt sold.

The port’s second most popular product, 500 cSt, saw sales of 845,600 mt, and while this was not a record in itself, it represented a record high 22.1 percent of the overall sales volume.

There were 3,324 calls for bunkers in September, putting the average stem size at 1,152 mt, slightly ahead of the 12-month average of 1,140 mt.

With three months of 2016 still left to report, year-to-date sales in the world’s biggest bunkering port by volume now stand at 36,558,100 mt, which is higher than the full year sales volume total for any year prior to 2010.
